An Introduction

What is the SAWS and what do they do to help?

The SAWS exists to raise much needed funds to support grass roots projects in Kashmir. SAWS is run by volunteers who are passionate about bringing change to the lives of poor & destitude who are facing a bleak future without help. The projects SAWS fund are run by small groups of people who are caring for the ill, abandoned and vulnerable. We are based in the Tsar Sharif area of Budgam, about an hour to Srinagar. We as a group of dedicated local people have been raising awareness and funds to fight the poverty. We are able to work with local people who are struggling to care for orphans and others deeply affected by poverty. The impact of poverty is immense and the local people have meagre resources. SAWS can assist them with money, advice and sometimes volunteers. We work with a number of organisations in India and have been thrilled at the cost effectiveness of this approach and the wonderful impact on the lives of many vulnerable individuals.

Our Focus

SAWS is focused primarily on the well-being of children and creating opportunities for them to have a better future. Achieving positive long-term outcomes for children however, inevitably includes helping to build stronger families and safer, caring community environments.

A new area that SAWS is establishing is that of School Partnerships. These important partnerships between Kashmir schools and Indian schools will offer all students and staff the opportunity to learn about one another's cultures, environments, backgrounds and life experiences. SAWS hopes to see these partnerships create understanding, tolerance and appreciation and to develop a keen interest from students in social justice issues.
